SCOTS SCENE
GT24 (Spring 2001)

Hamilton Academicals’ new stadium is well on course for completion by the end of the season. The new ground will have an initial capacity of 5,300 with only two stands being in place at first. The West (main) Stand backs onto the railway line just yards from where the main stand at their former home of Douglas Park did. The only other stand to be built at this time is at the north end. No name has yet been decided upon for the new stadium. The Accies, who are currently sharing at Partick’s Firhill, will move in for the start of next season.

Angus Council have approved plans for Arbroath to redevelop the main stand at Gayfield. SportScotland are now considering a grant towards the £500,000 cost of the project with a decision expected in March.

Hearts’ Chief Executive Chris Robinson wants to move the club to a new state-of-the-art 30,000-seat stadium in the west of Edinburgh. The club have been at Tynecastle since 1886 and have in recent years substantially improved the ground. No formal plans are yet available.

Dumbarton’s new ground, the Strathclyde Homes Stadium, opened late in 2000 with the first game being against Elgin City. Standing in the shadow of Dumbarton Castle, the new ground at present boast a simple stand on one side with seats but not a lot else.
