CYMRU COLUMN
GT22 (Autumn 2000)

Cwmtillery are currently bringing their Woodland Field ground up to Welsh League standard and should be in a position to start using it by early season.

Since their promotion at the end of last season, Port Talbot Athletic have improved Victoria Road during the close season and the stadium is now up to League of Wales standard.

Llanrhaeadr, newly promoted to the Spar Mid Wales League, have been carrying out work to enlarge their playing area in line with League requirements.

Newport County are looking at moving out of the Newport Stadium because pleas for the ground to be brought up to Conference standard have so far fallen on deaf ears.  The stadium’s owners Newport County Borough Council have said that the necessary improvements will have to be paid for within the council’s leisure services budget, meaning a timescale of five to ten years before the work is complete.  With County pushing for promotion from the Dr Martens League, the club are now looking are other options should they be in a promotion spot at the turn of the year.  Already ruled out is the Rodney Parade headquarters of Newport Rugby Club as the club believes the Conference frowns upon ground sharing.  Another option is the directors of the football club coming up with the necessary funds to improve the Newport Stadium themselves.  The cost of doing so is estimated at between £400,000 and £800,000, and although viable, the directors feel that there would be no equity in the project.

Aberystwyth Town have carried out further work at Park Avenue during the summer giving the ground a £250,000 facelift.  The work has seen the building of a new 300-seat stand at the Crosville End (pictured in magazine), an all-weather pitch and a television gantry incorporating an executive box, club shop and a disabled toilet.
